Panel at the 2017 Central APA on Classical Indian Philosophy

Prasanta Bandyopadhyay is putting together a panel on classical Indian philosophy for the central meeting of the American Philosophical Association this March. He is eager to populate it with qualified speakers. Time is of the essence here, however. If anyone is interested, kindly let him know, sooner than later. Prasanta has given me the impression that he is casting a fairly wide net in terms of what sort of topics would fit. His email is: psb@montana.edu . He can provide more details as required.

  1. Hi Matthew and Prasanta
Happy to see this effort ! As was announced in this Blog a few months ago , ( http://indianphilosophyblog.org/2016/02/20/dialog-between-science-and-philosophy-a-new-event/ ) we are also going to conduct something similar in Bangalore from 25th-27th of October . I just want to share some of our experiences so far ( after the announcement here ) to communicate with the traditional Indian Philosophers . As was planned , the whole three days discussions will be based on 6 Panels , and we circulated some questions for Panel discussions on our part stemming basically from different epistemological troubles in modern understandings based on Physics . But the response so far is not as we expected ! May be the questions are not yet properly formulated to get through the core of traditional understandings of Reality . Of course , this is not quite unexpected . Defining the meaningful norms of exchange between the ‘Tradition’ and ‘Modernity’ is always difficult .
So I have restructuring the whole Panel Themes reducing the number of Panels to 3 only .. The basic Plan now is to tell the story of Physics for the Philosophers as much as possible in their terms ( first half of the meeting – for 1 day ) and to get their response during the rest 2 days or so in 3 Panels ..
Let us hope this to work !
    Best
    Debajyoti
